Clouds Continue to Dance

My studio is part of a gallery/studio set up (High Road Gallery in Worthington, OH).  All 13 artists had a project requiring their participation.  My small contribution was this 7" circular image painted in acrylic.

My seemingly rare summertime moments of relaxation often turn to watching clouds do their "thing"---dancing across the sky, forming various "animals" as they twist and turn.

A Joy to Be Able to Live and Learn

My brother-in-law needed some visual interest in his otherwise undecorated room.  In asking if I were to give him a painting, what he’d like: landscape, still life, flowers, a bird?  His response was that he liked mountains.
Mountains?  What more could a nature artist need to spark images of the Rockies, Sierras, Banff?  With a “commission” as motivation, I got to work.  Alpenglow, the last light on the tops of high peaks made a strong case for itself, as did my attraction to the Tetons.  Brilliant!
Inspired, I dove in on a 24” x 36” canvas that would cover a good portion of a wall.  Nearing completion, I had my wife ask her brother if he was thinking of "the West” when he mentioned a painting of mountains.  Instead, he had the Appalachians in mind—the Blue Ridge Parkway that he’d traveled several times.
Oops.  Painting #2 began the next day. I guess it pays to seek adequate information to gain specificity, eh? (Not one of my strong points.) But I’ve got a new Teton painting I’m willing to part with if anyone is interested!

Awe-inspiring Creation

Preparing for a big anniversary celebration, my wife and I scurried to scan family photos and slides.  Lots of interesting images “stirred to the top” during our search.  One was this long forgotten Grand Canyon ecktachrome shot.  I was intrigued by the violet cast to the background areas and into the shadows.  This scene almost demanded to be shared, and LARGE.  The awe I experienced looking into this inconceivably enormous monument led to ruminating on the complexity of the Creation.  I find it a difficult challenge even beginning to comprehend the immensity of our universe or the very fact that our planet is so extremely finely-tuned to support life.  Someone deserves an abundance of thanks.
