"Inspiration Point"

A fellow plein air painter I contacted via email had given me a list of several possible locales for inspiration.  Imagine my excitement at arriving at what I thought was the coast, then looking downward at these massive (50’ high or more) rock formations below jutting up out of the ocean!

I climbed under a restraining fence to a little patch of dirt to set up my easel and paint this little gem!  I can still “feel” the breeze blowing in off the ocean, hitting the unseen cliffs between me and my subject, then lifting upwards and into my face.  Gulls and pelicans kept gliding by below me on the updrafts!

As an added treat, I met a man and his toddler son whose uncle had helped baptize thousands of young "Jesus People" in the ocean a quarter of a mile up the beach.  That was back in the late 60s, when my life, too, was changed forever—just like those "crazy" young people.
