A late afternoon hike in early spring on an island in the Pacific led me around a curve to be smacked in the face with this amazing view. I’m always on the lookout for what I call “Wow!” moments—they seem to further open our eyes. If ever I’d had a good definition for “Wow!”—this was it! The “late light” filtered through the eucalyptus trees to cast light on the path, while seeming to set fire to the clusters of leaves above. Whew, heavenly foretaste, I do believe. Needless to say (although I will say it anyway) I had to paint this scene!
One of my recent excursions into palette knife painting. My best friend and fellow painter, Mark Gingerich, has pushed me to experiment with various approaches to applying paint in order to add variety to the densities and textures of the painting’s surface, which adds visual interest for the viewer.
Juried into and exhibited in the 68th Annual Ohio Show, Zanesville Museum of Art, Zanesville, OH.
