This painting was the first of my ventures into the realm of knife painting, courtesy pressure imposed by my painting buddy!  I also limited myself to what has come to be called the “Zorn Palette,” after Swedish painter Anders Zorn.  Instead of a full complement of primary colors—red, yellow and blue—Zorn selected a more subdued range of pigments: red, and two “earth” colors, yellow ochre and ivory black.  Using these three paints and Titanium White, this is what I came up with.  The areas of the painting that “read” blue, are really gray, since there is no blue on my palette!  Yet the eye sees this mixture as blue when seen in the context of the whole painting.  Amazing.

A longtime friend of ours from Nashville, TN surprised my wife and I by showing up at our booth at an art show, fell in love with this piece and took it home with her.  Nice!
