Redwing and Dragonfly

Originally painted for use as a cover for the Ohio State Parks magazine, this style was typical of my work as a wildlife artist.  A follower of Robert Bateman, Canadian wildlife artist, I worked in acrylic on gesso-primed masonite hardboard striving for total realism.

A sure sign of spring, the male Red-winged Blackbird "sounds off" to establish and protect his territory in a wetland that is turning green again.  He is joined by a fellow marsh inhabitant, a flying dragon, who waits for passing insect snacks!
