"Crest of the Hill"

I had an opportunity to take a short, “action-packed” 2-day workshop with an amazing California artist, Ray Roberts.  The workshop preceded the Ohio Plein Air Society’s Annual Competition in Athens, OH.  We spent our time on a farm in rural Meigs County, where this piece was painted. It was a hazy, bright day with occasional passing clouds.  I was drawn to the simple yet powerful abstract shapes, not only of the foreground and middle ground hill outlines, but even of the shapes of the trees and bushes accented by the vertical of the utility pole.  Wish things were always this clean and uncomplicated when I went out to paint!
