"Lift Off"

A juvenile Bonaparte's Gull lifts off the billowing waves in a cold winter gale.  How these creatures can survive the extremes of wind, water and temperatures simply boggles my mind.  I can still remember the stinging sleet burning my eyes while I tried to squint through my spotting scope in that storm!  (Many thanks to Jim Stevenson for use of his reference photos!)
