A friend, Tony Matthews, and I used to paint wildlife together during our lunch hours. Tony invited me to a special event “Up Close With The Elephants” at the Columbus Zoo. Pulling their ears, being sniffed (everywhere) and stoking their trunks, I was overwhelmed with their beauty, strength and dignity. I did this painting as a sort of homage to these intelligent African animals. The original #1 was sold, when I was asked to do "something similar," and painted this more impressionistic version #2.
